Psychotherapy in Helsinki

Psychotherapist Teppo Kupias

As a therapist, it is important to me to create a warm, safe, and accepting space where we can explore even difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences together. All feelings are welcome here — and sometimes a shared laugh can also be a meaningful part of the work. My way of working is grounded in calm presence and in making space to slow down, without pressure to rush or perform.

When mind and body are listened to in a safe therapeutic relationship, it becomes possible to find new self-understanding, greater self-compassion, relief from the weight of the past, and more strength for life in the present.

My psychotherapy orientation is trauma psychotherapy. This means that our work is grounded in the present moment, while also making space to explore the impact of past experiences and early relationships when that feels relevant. I help clients understand their reactions, strengthen emotional and bodily regulation, and recognise patterns that may no longer serve them. The aim is to help you loosen the grip of harmful beliefs, stuck patterns, and self-criticism so that you can live in a way that feels more truly your own — at your own pace, and together with support.

You do not need to be in a severe crisis to come to therapy. Sometimes no single issue feels dramatic, but the overall burden has become too much. This may show up as burnout, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, attachment-related struggles, questions around boundaries, grief, or simply a persistent sense that something is not right.

I also welcome international and English-speaking clients in Finland. Living in another country, between languages or cultures, can bring its own forms of strain: loneliness, identity shifts, cultural misunderstanding, relationship stress, uncertainty, or the feeling of carrying too much on your own. These experiences matter, and they are worth bringing into therapy.

My background: I have nearly ten years of experience working alongside people in the midst of acute grief and crisis. I have worked extensively in crisis and peer support with people affected by sudden loss, especially in situations where a loved one has died by suicide or homicide. Themes of grief, traumatic loss, and major life disruption are deeply familiar to me. This work has taught me how differently difficult life events affect each person, and how many paths toward recovery and a meaningful life there can be.

I work naturally with people from a wide range of ages, genders, professions, and cultural backgrounds. I offer therapy in both Finnish and English.

My welcoming office is located in central Helsinki (Kalevankatu 20), just a short walk from Kolmen sepän patsas and around ten minutes from the central railway station.

If you feel I might be the right therapist for you, you are warmly welcome exactly as you are.

Availability: I welcome new self-paying clients as well as clients seeking Kela-supported rehabilitative psychotherapy.
